Email Sequences: Automate Your Follow-Ups and Convert More Leads

Capturing a lead is only half the battle. What happens next — in the first minutes and hours after someone submits your form or spins your wheel — determines whether they buy, forget you, or go to a competitor. Popwis Email Sequences automate exactly this window.

What Are Email Sequences?

An email sequence is a series of pre-written emails sent automatically at set time delays after a trigger event. For example:

  • A visitor submits your newsletter form → they immediately receive a welcome email
  • 24 hours later → they receive a product highlight email
  • 3 days later → they receive a discount offer

All of this happens automatically, without you lifting a finger after the initial setup.

Trigger Events

Popwis sequences can be triggered by any of these events:

  • Form submission — when a visitor submits a popup or inline form
  • Wheel spin — when a visitor spins your Spin to Win wheel
  • Exit offer interaction — when a visitor claims an exit offer
  • Segment entry — when a contact matches a new segment rule
  • Manual enrollment — you enroll specific contacts yourself

You can also restrict a sequence to a specific form, wheel, or offer — or let it fire for any of that type.

Setting Up Your First Sequence

Step 1: Create the sequence

In your dashboard, go to Sequences and click New Sequence. Give it a name like "Welcome Series" and choose your trigger event.

Step 2: Add email steps

Add steps to your sequence. Each step has:

  • A subject line
  • An email body — built with the visual editor, or paste raw HTML via the Source mode
  • A delay — how long to wait before sending (immediately, 1 hour, 24 hours, 3 days, etc.)

Step 3: Configure sender details

Set your From Name and From Email in the Settings tab. This is what recipients will see in their inbox.

Step 4: Activate

Click Activate. From this point on, any contact who triggers the sequence will be automatically enrolled and receive your emails.

Merge Tags

Personalise your emails with dynamic merge tags:

  • {{first_name}} — inserts the contact's first name
  • {{email}} — inserts their email address
  • {{discount_code}} — inserts a discount code if one was associated with their interaction

Monitoring Enrollments

The Enrollments tab inside each sequence shows every contact enrolled, their current step, status (active / completed / cancelled), and enrollment date. You get full visibility into how your automation is performing.

Best Practices

  • Keep the first email short. It's a welcome, not a sales pitch. Just confirm they're in and set expectations.
  • Space emails out. Don't send 5 emails in 24 hours. Give at least 48 hours between follow-ups after the first day.
  • One clear CTA per email. Don't ask people to do three things. Pick one action you want them to take.
  • Test your sequence. Enroll yourself manually (set trigger to Manual) and check every email looks correct before activating.

The Bottom Line

Email sequences turn your lead capture widgets into a complete nurturing system. Instead of collecting emails into a list that goes cold, every new lead is automatically guided toward a purchase, booking, or conversion — on autopilot.
